At milkweed productions we're committed to making theatre that's created locally and connects globally. From full-scale productions to developing new work, we cultivate spaces where emerging actors can grow, collaborate, and bring bold stories to life.
See what we've been working on!
The world is on fire, best to return to the water, and begin again...
We are excited to announce our inaugural production: Mary Zimmerman's Pulitzer Prize-winning Metamorphoses: Based on the Myths of Ovid. Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses is an enchanting theatrical adaptation of Ovid's epic mythological poems. Staged at the historic Hammersmith Club Venue, our production features two seven-foot pools of water where these Greco-Roman myths are brought to life.
A woman wonders. A man makes a wish. A man takes a journey against his wife's will. A man offends a god. A man chases his lost love. A vine seeks a tree. A girl falls for her father. A boy confronts the sun. A soul becomes curious. A couple gives more than they have. And then a change happens,
And when it's over, you feel fuller than you did before.
Collectively, each of Metamorphoses’ nine myths gives us the rare opportunity to fall in love with humanity again, at a time when it is difficult to understand or respect human behavior.
Why Metamorphoses?
Nearly twenty-five years ago, Metamorphoses became a source of collective healing for audiences in the aftermath of 9/11, opening in New York just two-weeks after the tragedy. Through ancient myths, water, movement, and storytelling, the production reminded audiences of something timeless: that transformation is possible even in moments of uncertainty and loss.
Today, as communities around the world grapple with conflict, polarization, displacement, and social division, these stories feel as urgent as ever.
The world is on fire, best to return to the water, and begin again.
Our Venue
Our limited engagement runs from Thursday 16 - Friday 17 July at the historic Hammersmith Club Venue. The Hammersmith Club is a remarkable community landmark that has served local residents for generations. It featured as a location in the film Bend It Like Beckham and is now known for hosting events like its weekly Salsa Night for Hammersmith Locals.
By staging our production in this unique venue, we hope not only to create an unforgettable theatrical experience but also to celebrate and support an important local institution.

Think she's the man, but she's the MOON
We hope you can join us for our first look of revolution, a y2k romcom reimagining of Romeo & Juliet from the perspective of the moon, written by LAMDA graduate Abigail Devine ‘25. This one-night-only rehearsed reading will take place on Saturday 11 July as a part of Part of The Hope Theatre's WIP Week 2026
Throughout R&J, the moon is chastised for being inconstant, envious, and sickly. But what if she was just another girl in love with Romeo? And what if she decided to break up Verona’s favorite star-crossed couple?
Blending Greek myth, verse, and contemporary dialogue, this play celebrates the trials and tribulations of the young lunar goddess who is learning how to live (and love) in a universe that has already decided her destiny. Think She’s The Man - except this time, she’s the moon.
The play has undergone extensive internal R&D, and the purpose of this reading is to open it up to a public audience before we mount a fully realized production.
